Navigating Cultural Expectations and Wellness

We are excited to introduce Matthew (Matt) Embry, who will be presenting to our group on November 4th. Matt is a first-generation Filipino American and a graduate student in the College Counseling program at San Francisco State University. He brings a wealth of experience, having previously studied at Skyline College and transferring to CSU East Bay, where he earned a B.A. in Psychology.

In his presentation, “Bridging Generational Gaps in AANHPI Communities: Navigating Cultural Expectations and Wellness,” Matt will explore the challenges of family expectations and communication styles while promoting mental health and wellness within AANHPI communities. His background as an Admissions & Records Assistant and a student leader in the Center for Innovative Practices through Hip Hop Education & Research (CIPHER) adds valuable insight to his work.

When he’s not immersed in his studies, Matt enjoys the company of his two adorable but mischievous dogs.
